BSc (hons) M. Med. Sci,

Liz discovered art at Christmas 2011 when she was given a book entitled ‘How to draw anything’ by Mark Lindley.  Much to her astonishment, she found she could draw.

Recently retired from a career in health care, Liz was delighted to join two Lancashire art groups: ‘Confident drawing’ at ‘Stormart’ in Padiham and ‘Veterans in Communities’ (a Rossendale charity supporting ex-service personnel).  Since discovery of a talent she didn’t know she had, she began to see everything differently and inspired to draw and paint simply by being outside.  She is particularly inspired by the beautiful countryside in Lancashire, Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales. Her style is hyper-realism and she works mainly in acrylics.  Liz enjoys painting anything, including land, sea and townscapes, indoor scenes, steam trains, portraits, animals, bygone times etc.  When she won a prize and sold two pictures at her first exhibition, she was “speechless with shock”.  She went on to gain a Red Rose award for Lancashire and reached the final for Artist of the Year for the ‘Society for all Artists’.

Since then, she’s gone from strength to strength, exhibiting individually, with groups, in judged exhibitions and had work accepted in the open exhibitions at Haworth Art Gallery, Accrington, Lancs.  She is a member of Pendle Artists, Northern Artists and Padiham Artists.  She continues to paint with Stormart and Veterans in Communities, and often receives commissions.

Liz is now passionate about art, finding it a limitless way to express feelings and beauty in the environment.  She thought she had retired but art ‘had other ideas’.
